David is a Specialist Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon and a Craniomaxillofacial Surgeon. David specialises in caring for children and adults with cleft, lip and palate and other craniofacial problems. David is a founding member of the Australian New Zealand Society of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons and was the President of the Australasian Cleft Lip and Palate Association from 2005 until 2018. David also regularly performs orthognathic (facial contouring) surgery in combination with an orthodontist for cleft related malocclusions and other facial asymmetries/disharmonies.

Dr David Gillett grew up and attended Medical School in Sydney. He commenced training in Paediatric Surgery at the Campberdown Children’s Hospital and Westmead Hospital in Sydney. David then transferred to train as a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon in Sydney & Perth obtaining his FRACS in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in 1991 . David then completed a Fellowship in Orthognathic Surgery and Facial Aesthetic Surgery in Sydney followed by 2 years of post fellowship training in Cleft and Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. ln 1994 David returned to Perth.
Since then he has worked in the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Department at Princess Margaret Hospital, now Perth Children’s Hospital. David was the Head of Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery between 1995 and 2007.
David is the supervisor of Paediatric Plastic Surgery Training at Perth Children’s Hospital. He was President of Australasian Cleft Lip & Palate Association from 2005 – 2018, and president of the Asia Pacific Cleft Palate Craniofacial Congress between 2007-2011. David is a founding member of the Australian New Zealand Society of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons.
David’s Private Practice focuses mainly on functional and cosmetic Rhinoplasty, Genioplasty, Functional and Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery, Facial Rejuvenation and Aesthetic Breast Surgery. David specialises in the investigation and surgical management of speech disorders particularly related to cleft palate. David performs facial contour surgery in combination with an Orthodontist for cleft related malocclusions and other facial asymmetries or disharmonies.
