People often try and use exercise to lose weight from their stomach and abdominal area during and after a considerable loss of weight. However, diet and exercise are limited in the results they can achieve and will be of no help following extreme weight loss.
Excess skin and a saggy stomach can be deflating for many women after pregnancy, especially those that had previously worked hard to maintain their body shape. A tummy tuck can restore confidence and a heightened sense of femininity by removing excess skin and repairing torn muscles
Many people are left with excess, baggy skin after losing a significant amount of weight. A tummy tuck will remove this and leave you with the body shape you were dreaming of when you started your weight loss journey.
Menopause can lead to skin losing much of its elasticity, which makes it appear saggy and excessive. A tummy tuck will take some of this away and tighten what is left, making your skin look more youthful.
This procedure contours the body by tightening and toning the muscles in the abdominal wall. There are two stages that lead to a tighter, flatter tummy: the first is the removal of excess skin and fat; and the second is strengthening the abdominal wall.
Both men and women within a healthy weight range choose to have the procedure to remove excess skin and fat, as it can be impossible to eliminate this through diet and exercise alone. Many patients find that the improvement in body shape leads to long-term health benefits, as it positively impacts your lifestyle, exercise, and general well-being. Everyday activities also tend to become much easier, so walking, running and exercising are made more comfortable.
Dr Gillett can help you regain your pre-pregnancy body by removing the stretched skin around your abdominal area. Many women struggle to restore their figures themselves and require surgical intervention to get back to where they want to be. If your body has not corrected itself within a few months of the birth, you will be a good candidate for the procedure.
A tummy tuck can restore and strengthen the abdominal muscles in your core. This may involve repairing any torn muscles and returning them to their previous state. Loose skin around the stomach will be tightened across the repaired muscles and give you a
Stubborn fat deposits can be easily removed using liposuction; Dr Gillett will then cut away the excess skin to leave you with a toned and tight abdominal area. The procedure will remove sufficient excess fat and saggy skin to give you a natural-looking, athletic stomach.
If you have a significant amount of excess skin or a large quantity of external body fat (this is the type of fat that can be pinched between the fingers), this procedure may be right for you. Most mothers also experience significant muscle stretching or laxity after pregnancy, so a tummy tuck is also recommended for these patients.
Abdominplasty is not suitable for patients wishing to lose weight, so the procedure will only be carried out once the weight has been lost. If you have a small amount of excess skin/fat, Dr Gillett may decide that a “mini tummy tuck” is the best option for you.
Suitable candidates for the procedure also meet the following criteria:
“At Ethicos Institute, we like to consider all aspects of health and wellness not just from a cosmetic or appearance standpoint. We are all about empowering women and men and our passion is to help our patients look and feel their absolute best inside and out"
If you maintain a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise, the results should be permanent. However, it is important to remember that no surgical procedure is 100% permanent, our bodies are aging all the time.
We recommend that you only consider a tummy tuck when you have finished having children. This will ensure that the results are as long-lasting as possible.
Many patients choose to combine abdominoplasty with other procedures; Dr Gillett can discuss this with you during your consultation. The most commonly selected procedures are:
Dr Gillett uses advanced surgical techniques that ensure that the scar is lower and more well-concealed, as well as thinner, than with a traditional tummy tuck.
Low impact exercise can be resumed approximately six weeks after surgery, while more intense exercise, such as running and heavy lifting, will require around twelve weeks’ recovery post-surgery.
A mini tummy tuck will cost $6,500, while a full tummy tuck starts at $8,500. Additional costs are $1,500-$2,000 per area to be liposuctioned. Extended, or vertical tummy tucks start at $10,500.
